Ms. Misbah Shahid
Program Director, SIMS

India is home to the largest population of youth in the world. While they form a significant percentage of our population, their challenges are immense, particularly in the area of education and employment. Research says that only 45% of India’s youth is employable, i.e. they obtain a knowledge base but lack skills, purpose and real world experience. This signifies the dire need to develop technical, professional, leadership, and entrepreneurial skills in them, in order to enable them to lead fruitful lives. Moreover the education system today is devoid from looking at developing young minds with social awareness and sensibilities.

On the other hand, there is a huge demand for well-trained paramedical professionals in India and elsewhere and India faces manifold challenges in meeting the demand for Human Resource for Health (HRH) in the country.

Shama Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) was set up in 2018 with the sole purpose of providing good quality training and exposure to students in the field of paramedics. Here this is emphasis on adequate skill development for youth coming from across socio-economic backgrounds, to increase their employment opportunities soon after graduating, thus helping improve standards of living.

Over the last few years, SIMS has grown both in numbers and quality of teaching. We have more than 100 students across the 3 years of the course. We have a competent pool of experienced medical professionals as full time and visiting faculty.

At SIMS, we focus on both the cognitive and social and emotional aspects of the development of students. Helping them identify their aspirations, motivating them and providing them the opportunities to fulfill their potential.

Apart from academic inputs, we provide students the platform to engage in several other areas such as communication, leadership, digital literacy, civic engagement through activities, events, guest speakers, etc.

"The fact is that given the challenges we face, education doesn't need to be reformed—it needs to be transformed." - Ken robinson

Our efforts at SIMS is to create an engaging and inclusive environment which nurtures confident and compassionate healthcare professionals!
